Long before the digital age, homeowners looking for a quiet spot to chat with friends would use a “telephone bench” to while away the hours gathering the latest gossip over their landlines. And though the cell phone made these benches obsolete in terms of their original function, their asymmetrical lines and space-saving savoir faire have never gone out of style.
The Fawkes was lovingly designed in homage to its telephone bench ancestors, but it also includes some inventive features all its own. Its standout details are its novelty partition – whose sliding mechanism adjusts itself to your desired positioning – and its indented legs, inspired by 20th-century Japanese styling. Move the partition to the extreme left or right to achieve a uniquely proportioned look straight out of the sketchbooks of Frank Lloyd Wright or place it dead centre to steady a few drinks or snacks as you catch up with friends in person instead of over the proverbial wire.
