18th-century French style marries New York art deco aesthetic in a decorative nightstand confection that reflects life back through a bewitchingly smoked mirror.
Drawing inspiration from traditional, pre-revolutionary Verre Églomisé technique––in which metal leaf is carefully plastered onto a glass panel from its reverse side––the Arabella partially recalls a gilded age of opulent living, replete with mirrored halls and jewel-encrusted finery. And yet, for all its old-world brilliance (indeed, the top drawer even boasts a drop-in felt lining), the piece simultaneously speaks to a newer, more progressive era, embodied in its strict geometric lines as well as its slightly distorted panelling, reminiscent of faint industrial haze across a city skyline.
But the Arabella’s journey through time doesn’t end with the 1920s.
Bringing the nightstand even further up to date is a suite of 21st-century comforts, which include an in-built light at its base, three electrical outlets, a cord clip, and a functioning USB port. The exposed wooden trim is even coated with a singed charcoal finish for a touch of modern-day ‘distressed’ bohemian chic.
