Buyer, beware: ‘Affinity’ may be too mild a word for the relationship you’ll develop with this transitional showpiece. In fact, don’t be surprised if your feelings for this particular nightstand move into full-on obsession territory. A sensuously serpentine reinvention of the basic ‘box-on-stand’ structure, the Affinity was never meant to be a wallflower––it was built to win hearts.
With legs like mirrored archways and a tasteful, sand-blasted finish, the Affinity immediately distinguishes itself from the normal nightstand crowd, relying on its curvaceous form and soft, watercoloured shading to catch the eye (as opposed to falling back on a conventional angular structure or an oversaturated hue). And though the Affinity does come outfitted with a typical drawer for easy bedtime storage, the piece steers clear of gaudy hardware, allowing its gently undulating shape to assume the spotlight. Small pewter accents and a cream-toned bar pull may provide added panache, but the true star attraction lies in the Affinity’s decision to go totally round in an otherwise rectangular world.
